I'm signed up

I'm signed up and I'm willing to help pay for elf costumes for the kids if they want them.

Also, I call Dasher!

- Denee

Marks' Signed Up

Andy and I are registered for the race!  I have found a belt for Santa, but I do not have any plans for the beard.  So, I will need help with that.  EJ, I don't plan to wear your army boots for the run.  Maybe for pictures, if it works, but I will be fortunate to complete this "race" with my own size 6 shoes, let alone your size 13 (or whatever) army boots.  ;)  Thanks for thinking of me though!!

The run.

Here is the link to the run.
http://www.bullrunrunners.com/index.html

Cost is $25 if we sign up by Thursday, $28 if after that, and $30 on race day.

Costumes are Santa an reindeer. Reindeer would bring any running shorts/pants. Black is preferred. Brown would be awesome.
Running undershirt is optional if you want long sleeves. Black would be best. We will buy cheap brown short sleeves cotton shirts here. Maybe we will write reindeer names on them. Reindeer antlers should be easy to find for $1. Foam ball for noses.
Santa will get a red shirt with typical Santa hat. We will create a Beard...somehow and a belt. Lynne is going to be Santa. I haven't told her she has to run in black army boots yet.

I expect a $5 to $6 cost for each costume. Getting green shirts and elf ears for the kids would add to the cost but would make a fun picture.

Lynne's list Updated

Over the course of this past week I was told 3 times, by different people, that my Christmas list wasn't very helpful, fun, or creative.  So, I thought I would give it another try.  I know whomever has my name may have already bought me my gifts and I am fine with that!!  But, if not here are some new things to consider:

9x5x3 bread pan
thunder t-shirts (long or short sleeved)
Pink iPod Nano, or a pink iPod that can clip onto my clothes
Bose noise canceling earphones
Insulated cup, 20 oz, with pretty fun design
1" - 1 1/2" sliver hoop earrings
assortment of pink and red nail polishes
slippers, size 6 1/2, with hard sole
white, rubber watch with crystals around the face
Chocolate (eg. Kit Kats, Twix, Milky Way Dark, 3 Musketeers, Snickers)
Black socks
Pretty 16 oz coffee mugs
Christmas tree ornaments

I also updated my Amazon list.

Forgot 2 things

I forgot to mention that I have in my possession season 2 of Downton Abby.  I don't plan to just watch TV while together, but I know several of you have watched season 1 on Netflix and I thought I would mention that I can bring season 2, if people are interested.  If not, no big deal.  It was just a thought.

Also, I mentioned to Mom and Renee that we should take a family picture at some point while we are together.  Andy plans to bring his camera, which works best outside.  We thought maybe on Sunday before Christmas we could try this.  I don't want it to be a big deal where we all have to match, etc.  I don't want it to be frustrating for people either.  What are thoughts on this idea?  Of course, if he brings the camera we'll have it all week and can take pictures throughout the entire time, but to get one shot of everyone might take a little coordination...just a thought.  What do you think?

Dinner Claim

We request that we do dinner the night of Sunday, Dec. 30.  I plan to do Shandall's chili recipe that she gave us in our wedding cookbook.  I'm thinking Sunday would be best because it's a crockpot meal and with church that would work well.  However I'm open to another day as well!

Also, when/how do we need to register for the race? How much is it? Is there an early reg. fee, etc?

I'm getting excited to see everyone soon!

E.J.'s Wish List

I should have linked this a long time ago.  This is not a complete list, but has several good options.  I am going to be adding more "in the price range" items to it...so stay tuned.

Speaking of...did we ever set a specific price range?  I assume we are keeping it like last time...$25ish.

E.J.'s Amazon Wish List

Tuesday, November 27, 2012

You can now view "Andy's" wish list with the below link.  I added most everything to it, besides the sink faucets.  But I think it's stuff he'd really like...mostly.  I'll try to add more later, too.  He's been working on one that he keeps on his phone for about 2 months now, but he forgets to post it...

So, for those of you who have his name, hope this helps!

Andy's Wish List

He would also like gift cards to Starbucks, Panera Bread, and any other nice restaurant.

Mom's Christmas list

* car compass
* outdoor thermometer that reads wireless inside
* Books:
Amy Carmichael  I Come Quietly to Meet You
     St Augustine Confessions
Recipe Book for GOOD breakfast snacks for  a Sunday morning youth group
* Tea Cup in Oklahoma  Lynne knows which one.  I will bring a $10 bill to pay for the extra cost.
* Caramel Nut Decaffeinated Tea
* Size XL Sweatshirt
* Turtle with beauty, class, or personality - necklace, pin, house decoration
* Knee Socks  Black, Blue
* Another small/medium sized crock pot  Andy, the last one got moldy between the pot and the dish.
* We have a small chest freezer in our kitchen dining room now.  I would like easy- to-wash
bath towels to put on it to look nice and I can use it as a shelf for doing dishes.
* Cloth napkins  Burgandy, Gray, or Bright Colors

All of my life I have done stockings for Christmas morning.  So I haven't quite let go of that tradition yet.  I plan to bring paper bags and put a few things in them.  Not much.  I am not asking anybody to contribute, but it could be fun if you want to.  Anything goes. Gum, fudge, books, little gadgets, wrapped or unwrapped, copies of a favorite poem or story, jokes, puzzles, clearance rack items, etc., or nothing.

Plans sound good, Renee and E.J.

Oh, one more thing (thought).  This didn't work this summer, but I want to try again to have you bring something to read aloud to others.  Joy, I still think about the stories you read at Denee's house.

Tentative Timeline

Happy November!
EJ and I got to go on a Panera date JUST to go over our thoughts and ideas for Christmas. We have made an outline and I think that is the perfect description for it. It is only an outline. We realized that we don't want to be "scheduled" and feel obligated to do things or whatever. But, with this many people coming and for more than a week, we thought it'd be a good idea to have some general plan. We also thought that you can think about what you would like to do and come kind of having an idea. I wish all things were free, but they aren't. So you can also pick and choose based on your own budgets:) D.C. is not hard to get to and there's different ways to do it, ie: metro, etc.

EJ and I will be providing food for breakfast and lunch, you're welcome to pitch in if you can. We will also do the main Christmas meal and another meal or two. We're asking that each family also plan to do one meal.. It doesn't have to be a huge deal. It can be grilled cheese, spaghetti or whatever you want. You don't have to claim it now, unless you want to. We live really close to grocery stores so that won't be a problem. We're also asking that if we run low on milk or bread or basic things, people chip in to go out and get that. That would be helpful.

Saturday 22nd-Everyone is coming in at different times. Messiah starts at 8. We will provide lunch but everyone is on their own for dinner. Some may want to go out, eat in D.C. or whatever.
Sunday 23-We will do lunch after church, dinner is light.
Monday 24th-Ronnie's Birthday. We could go out, which has been a tradition (olive garden nearby) or someone can do a meal :) Go see Hobbit.
Tuesday 25th-Christmas meal-Mom is making waffles! EJ and I will do dinner.
Weds. 26th-Leftovers & would be a good day out.
Thursday 27th-Someone cook dinner & Lynne would like to do a dedication for the children. She can share more about that. (doesn't have to be on this day, just am putting it out there)
Friday 28th-Someone cook dinner
Saturday 29th-Someone cook dinner
Sunday 30th-Someone cook dinner
Monday 31st  Make your own pizza night or leftovers depending on how much is left. Run!
Tuesday 1st-Everyone traveling home

We don't expect everyone to be at every dinner together, just let whoever is cooking that night know so that they can plan the meal.

Some ideas for things to do: *means things that would be good for the whole family
Tea Party for ladies and little boys:) Big boys find their own entertainment:)
National Harbor *
National Tree *
Memorials and Museums (this is long, depending on how much you crunch in)
Mt. Vernon
National Zoo Lights*
National Cathedral
Manassas Battlefield
Ice Skating*
Old rag-long day, long hike, good for adults
Bowling*
Movies
Old town Arlington-adults
Georgetown (good for shopping)
Arlington Cemetary
Annapolis
Baltimore Aquarium

There you have it!! :) Open for thoughts/suggestions as always:)

I love list time:)

As of right now, EJ and I are also planning to get the kids all something too. Is everyone contributing to the bags or is this something just Mom is doing?

I have had a lot of fun making our amazon wish lists. I don't know how to attach a link though, so I'll have EJ help me with it. I did Bethany and Joshua's wish lists. I started to do mine and there's only a few things on there. It was hard for me to think of specific things, So here's some other general ones:
silver ball earrings
silver earrings
fun bracelets
socks
slippers
soft blankets
cooking sheet
casserole dishes
mugs
hot chocolate, I love rasberry!
little picture frames for my window sill
gift card to starbucks

Lynne, I keep meaning to write on the blog that we got the music machine and it was so funny because all I knew was the patience song that EJ sings to me, just once in awhile:) But the kids LOVE it!! Its a regular thing that is played in the car. I know every word! :) So good choice!

EJ and I are planning to get everything out to you by this weekend about plans, things to do, what we're thinking for food and just some Christmas thoughts.

Oh and just my personal thoughts with Santa. We talk about Santa and Bethany knows about him,  but we don't necessarily have all the presents come from Santa.

Santa?

The kids are so little, they won't notice who gives them gifts and who doesn't I imagine.  I thought I would just get some little things to add to the sacks that mom is putting together and not do real presents for them.

I did want to check though, are you guys doing "Santa" with the little ones or not at all?  Now that Nadia will be 5, she is old enough to remember.  Is Santa a part of Christmas for you all or not?  I guess I'm just curious and also don't want to say the wrong thing.

I have five minutes until my German one walks in the room, so here is a quick list for me:

1. Anything from my Amazon list
2. Bubble Bath, Lotion, Soaps
3. Candles  (Yankee or other strong smells)
4. Soft blankets
5. Sweaters (size medium) and not obnoxious
6. Beany Baby sized stuffed animals
7. Or anything you think I might like.  These are just ideas.

Lynne Here

I'm fine with however everyone else wants to do gifts for the kids, but I thought that some of the aunts, uncles, and grandparents were still planning on getting gifts for the kids (even though they hadn't "drawn" their names).  Someone correct me if I was wrong with that assumption.

I know Andy and I were planning on getting something for each kid. So they would receive multiple gifts, but not select multiple gifts unless they help us with all of them and not just the name they had drawn.  I'd be fine doing it that way, too!

Shandall here.

So, I know you already drew the names for the kids, but I'd really like for the kids to be able to pick out presents for each of their cousins. That was my intent when I said it forever ago. But I don't want to do that if you guys don't want to. I'd just like them to each have more than one gift to open and more than one person to pick gifts for. Is that okay? Or do you just want to go by the names already drawn?

Lynne & Kids' Christmas Lists

This year I found it to be easier to put together lists for myself and the kids by visiting Amazon.com and putting together our wish lists on there.  However, just because it shows as a certain way or as a certain thing on amazon doesn't mean we wouldn't enjoy variations.  For example, I put some Kindle books on there, but would take them in paperback or hardcover just as well.  I hope you get the idea.  Have fun looking and feel free to visit it often as I will be adding more and updating it as we do our shopping ;)

I will continue to encourage Andy to get his done soon!!

Calendar 2.0

Alright, I think that the calendar is ready to go.  You should get an invitation to it in your email.  You can then add, delete, and edit things in it through www.google.com/calendar.  You can view the calendar anytime on this blog by clicking on the link to the left --------->
I do not think you can edit the calendar directly on this site.  Sorry.

We need to get the dates for when people are coming this week.  Please either add your thoughts to the calendar, write it on the blog, or call me and I will do it.  Renee and I are happy to talk with you more to work out the dates for what will work.

In other news, we have figured out the bedding and it looks like we will have an open middle floor all the time for hanging out, playing games, eating, and late night talks.

Talk to you soon.

Calendar Post

EJ, the calendar won't let me post on it.

I have been working on my Christmas list and the kids' as well.

Andy and I want to be able to go to at least one meusum while we are in DC, and maybe some of the memorials.  I know that's old for EJ and Renee, but we don't get to do it and think it would be fun!!  We are working on finalizing our time of arrival and departure.  I think Andy might end up taking 2 weekends off of church so that we can come to the Messiah and do the 5K.  I want to do both!!  I also think making Christmas cookies, cupcakes, fudge, candy, etc. sounds like fun.  MAYBE we could do that one of our first days there and then munch on it over the week or have it all there for the girl's tea party!  Bode is a great helper in the kitchen, and Bailey is learning ;)

I'm planning on bringing stuff to make headbands.  I liked that idea, too!

It doesn't sound like we are going to run out of things to do while we are there.

Christmas Calendar

If you do not have an invitation to the blog, it might be because I don't have your most current email address.  You could shoot it to me at enochgreen@gmail.com or send it my way via text message (703-955-0916).

Here is the link to the Christmas Calendar.  I think you should be able to just add things to it without an invitation.  Let me know if that isn't the case and I will put in permission for everyone ASAP.  Renee and I will also be adding dates for possible activities.  What we really need for you are the dates you are thinking of coming on or are set in stone you will come on.

Thanks Lynne! That looks great:)
Joy, if you go to that link you see prices. It depends on where your seat is. I would say that tickets would average between 50-100 a ticket. It also has the dates there. I just know the last date to go would be the 23rd. And as far as the headbands, that would be a good idea too. We did think about that. If people help bring things to decorate with, we could do that. I'm up for either!

Email...you did say that, didn't you?!?!

I fugured it out.  I went to my email as you said and now I can contribute to the Christmas blog, too.

Here are the names for Christmas 2012:

Christmas Blog

Hey Family,
EJ & I made this blog so that we could write about the details for Christmas in one spot and not have to remember who wrote where and what did they write when.
We can write our wish lists on here, we can write events that you may want to do on here, when people are arriving etc. Its far away but its fun to talk about and think about even now!
Here's some information already for you to know!

  • I looked up concerts at the Kennedy Center. If you're coming to D.C., that's the place to do it. They have Handel's Messiah playing through December 23rd. After that, there are some other Christmas shows. Its not time to buy tickets but they will be available September 12th.
  • Also, there is a 4 miler on New Year's Eve if you'd like to do that as a family that goes on sale in October. We thought since many of YOU, not me YET are runners it could be a fun thing to do together.
  • When Mom and I were together we had a tea party. We'd like to have an ALL GIRLS ONLY tea party. We thought it'd be fun to come with a hat or headband that is accessorized to your style:)  You should decorate it yourself and then bring it when you come.
That's all from us now!!

EJ and Renee
